Natural History Presentations

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History offers several PowerPoint and interactive programs on a variety of subjects.  Most of these programs are appropriate for school groups as well as families and are available with general museum admissions during the summer months or as supplemental programs for visiting school field trips at any time. Our volunteer naturalists have researched their subject material and are skilled in delivering educational and entertaining presentations. Here are brief descriptions of some of our subjects:

• Astronomy: A survey of northeastern skies; looking at sunspots; a history of the telescope; how the sun and moon affect tides.
• Insects: Examining the structure and function of insect anatomy; insect communities; benefits and issues re. insects.
• Birds: Structure of wings, beaks and feet; how birds fly; common birds, raptors and water birds.
• Snakes: History of snakes; local species; protective adaptations; snakes as predators and prey.
• Bats: Our misunderstood mammals; evolution of flight; what about echolocation; vampire bats.
• Whales: The largest animals ever; feeding habits; migration routes; history of whaling.
• Saltworks: A major industry of Cape Cod; the technology of harvesting salt from the sea; local evidence of salt production
