The Osprey Cam can be accessed only by computers running Microsoft Windows and using the Internet Explorer browser; Safari, Firefox and Netscape do not support the ActiveX protocols used by the CCMNH server(nominally 97% personal computers use the Windows operating system). To access the OspreyCam, “ActiveX” must be enabled and the site put on the Windows’ “trusted’ list. These procedures need be done only once. The steps are as follows. Step 1 is ActiveX enabling: Open the Internet Explorer browser to the Osprey site (http://74.94.146.105:8888). If the Osprey nest is not visible go to “Tools” on the browser menu bar --> click on “Internet Options”, click on the “Security” tab --> click the “Custom Level” box -->scroll down the menu and enable all “ActiveX control and plug-in” boxes (mark “prompt” for the controls “download unsigned Active X…” and “Initialize and script…”)--> click OK --> click “Apply” --> click “ Yes” if prompted --> click OK. Restart the browser / OspreyCam site. At this point you may get a message about Windows not recognizing the “publisher”. Proceed to step 2. Step 2: Click on “Tools”, as above, --> click on “Internet Options” --> click on the Security Tab, --> click on “Trusted Sites” --> click on “sites” --> uncheck the tic box next to “Requires…” --> then click on “Add” ; the URL address for the Osprey site should show up in the Table --> click “Close” --> move the “security level for this zone” slider down to “Low” --> click “Apply” (the computer may ask you if you wish to install a program, click “yes”) --> click OK. Reset: This step is to ensure that only ActiveX controls for the Osprey site are allowed. Now repeat step 1 to the point of clicking the “Custom Level” tab. Then click “Reset” --> OK--> click “yes” if prompted, click --> OK. If there are problems remaining, send an email message to: ITdept@ccmnh.org 07/10/07
