CCMNH is very proud to host an evening with artist, author and naturalist, James Prosek. Prosek has written for The New York Times and National Geographic Magazine and won a Peabody Award in 2003 for his documentary about traveling through England in the footsteps of Izaak Walton, the seventeenth-century author of The Compleat Angler. His work has been shown in numerous esteemed galleries including the Gerald Peters Gallery, New York and Santa Fe; and the National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC.
James' book "Ocean Fishes" (Rizzoli, 2012) is a collection of 35 paintings of Atlantic fishes, all of which were painted life size based on individual specimens he traveld to see. In 2012 Prosek was awarded the Gold Medal for Distinction in Natural History Art from the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Our NATURESCAPE GALLERY will exhibit two life-size Fine Art prints; a Swordfish and Blue Fin Tuna as well as original paintings chosen by James for this very special evening of art and science! He is currently working on a book, as well as an article for National Geographic, about how we name and order the natural world. Ocean Fishes is available in our Museum Shop.
