Cape Cod's Nature Place

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

2020 Boston Area City Nature Challenge

Nature Program

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is participating in the 2020 City Nature Challenge, which is a friendly competition among over 200 urban areas worldwide to see which region can identify the most species of plants, animals and fungi within a 4-day period! This year on the 5th anniversary of City Nature Challenge and the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket will be included in the Boston Area City Nature Challenge identification region.

Large-scale species ID efforts such as these help to engage people of all ages and backgrounds in science, in addition to providing a clearer and more accurate picture of a region’s biodiversity.

The Museum will have an observation event on Saturday, April 25th from 9 AM to 12 PM. Participants will come to the Museum, walk around the grounds and Wing Island and Lee Baldwin trails, identifying and taking pictures of as many species as they can find.

All you need to participate is a smartphone, the iNaturalist app and your curiosity!

Call 508-896-3867 x133 to register for this event.
